News From the Circuit

Olympics:
Well it is official. What started as a dream back in the mid 1980's has finally become a reality. BMX racing made its debut last night in the Olympics. All three American male riders advanced to the semi finals which will air tonight on NBC. Mike Day, Donnie Robinson and Kyle Bennett will all be in the same semi. Kyle disclocated his shoulder in a crash of his 3rd 1/4 heat. But the medical staff was able to get it back in and he plans to ride tonight as scheduled. Mike Day looked the most impressive of all the riders, winning all three rounds of his 1/4 heat. Jill Kitner qualified 7th in the ladies BMX Racing group, so she will be racing tonight as well, beginning with her semi round. Be sure to tune in tonight as the action heats up. One interesting note about the Olympic coverage, during the heat races, there were two references to Kyle Bennett being the 3-time American National Champion. Of course, that would be his three NBL National titles. Fitting, since the birth of the Olympic dream started with the NBL back in the mid 1980's. Also, if you were watching the NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams last night, you saw a great show about BMX racing and specifically Donnie Robinson. It was a great piece. If you missed it, you can catch it here: http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?mkt=en-us&vid=00d11be2-ee22-4160-bff4-9facf736690d&fg=rss&from=34
